Emano says he sent spies vs Save CDO

MAYOR Vicente Emano has admitted that he sent a group to eavesdrop on the Save CDO Movement during a motorcade and public meeting in Divisoria last Friday. Emano admitted this on Sunday even as he downplayed the ongoing campaign to oust him by way of a recall election. He said he sent his men to monitor the movements of the Save CDO Movement last week and they reported to him that the people behind the campaign belonged to an elite group. Emano said the Save CDO Movement "does not represent the masses" and there were only a few people supporting the campaign. He said this in reaction to the motorcade and the "Sendong" forum at the Kiosko Kagawasan where Save CDO Movement called for more signatures for the recall petition.

"There were only a few, unya puros mga elitista. They don't belong or represent the masses who were the ones most affected by the flood," said Emano. He said the planned daily public gatherings aimed at gathering more signatures for the recall petition have something to do with the move to have him suspended by Malacanang. A case for gross negligence and dereliction of duty has been filed against Emano before the Office of the President by another group in connection with the Typhoon Sendong disaster.

Tito Mora, Save CDO vice chairperson and spokesperson, said, "First he (Emano) says we were politicking. Now he says we're elitists. The fact is, we only want Emano and the political ideology he represents, out of the of fice he has dishonored and degraded for 13 long years. Hawa diha!" Ingrid Agudo, who is working for the Save CDO campaign, said Emano was clearly trying to sow discord between the masses and the so-called "elite."

She said Emano has long been doing this "as evidenced by his protection" of sidewalk vendors at the expense of the city's tax-paying businessmen. Agudo said Emano would "be surprised to see that a big number of signatures we've gathered so far are those coming from the masa." The movement's organizers have claimed to have already gathered over 10 thousand signatures as of Friday or less than a week after they launched the anti-Emano campaign. Save CDO needs 45 thousand signatures by May to convince the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to have Emano recalled.

Mora said, "If he (Emano) meant moneyed elite, then no one is more wealthy than his favored friends. "If he meant the educated elite, then his ver y own [councilors] are graduates of the most expensive universities in the city. "If he meant the social and Landed elite, I don't recall seeing them rally in the rain and darkened kiosko. "So what other elite groups are there? The civic groups like Rotar y whose Shelter Box project he posted his name and face on the Land which he does not own or maybe the leadership training elite like the Jaycees who have been distributing goods from the different Jaycee chapters all over the country? The Red Cross of the Chinese Fire Brigade Volunteers perhaps, or even the multi-awarded Oro Chamber? I do not think so. Elitism connotes the exclusion of others. Our call for change embraces all."
